Welcome to Camp Kudzu

Camp  Kudzu serves Georgia's children, teens and families with Type 1 diabetes.  Camp brings to mind fresh air…laughter heard across a lake…starry skies…children running, climbing, swimming and looking up to caring adults.  Camp provides a sense of community.  The children, teens and  families who take part in Camp  Kudzu's programs learn that they are not alone in their struggle with diabetes.

Camp  Kudzu    offers summer camp, family weekends, and teen retreats.  The focus is on fun, but the lessons learned regarding diabetes self-management skills are critical to long-term health.  Children who have access to quality diabetes management education at a young age can reduce their risk of diabetes-related complications. Camp provides vital education in a setting that gives each child the best chance of practicing lessons learned.

We all await a cure.  Until that day comes, Camp  Kudzu   helps our young people live life to the fullest.

Summer Camp Session 2 - The Count Down Begins...

Summer Camp Session 1 was a blast!

Yes, some days we felt like we were in a blast furnace - hot, hot, hot temperatures.  Yet the enthusiasm and spirit that marks a week at Camp Kudzu prevailed.

THANK YOU to all the volunteers who made Camp Kudzu's Session One at Camp Twin Lakes a fantastic experience.  The 135 volunteers on site served as medical staff, activities leaders, logistics heros, musicians, photographer extraordinaire and cabin counselors.  We were very impressed by our newest volunteers!  They have deep heart for our children, are smart, and enthusiastic.  We treasure our returning volunteers who patiently showed our newest volunteers the Camp Kudzu way and shared our spirit with them.  We loved the new activities at Twin Lakes.  Campers who tried the newest challenge element deserve a medal for their bravery! 

The campers are what it is all about.  They were lively, eager to learn and made many new friends. Total count for Session One: 187 campers in 21 cabins, and 18 CITs (at capacity).  Total count of diabetes management supplies:  almost infinite!

We express deep appreciation to all who made this session possible:

Year Round
Camp Kudzu plans and plots and procures to make sure that the summer sessions and the weekend programs are great. If you are interested in volunteering at the office for special mailings or other projects, let us know. If you dream of hosting your own fund-raiser for Camp Kudzu, we'd love to help you. Just give us a call. Know anyone in the logistics or trucking/transport industry? We need friends to move us to and from camp this summer!  Are you good with web sites?  Can you procure prizes and favors for volunteer staff training and special events?  We could use your help...

Kudzu Venture
