David I. Roos Jr. Scholarship Award

This special year-round opportunity will provide much needed scholarship support to underserved families across metro Atlanta, all corners of the state of Georgia – with an added focus on serving children, teens and families specifcally living in Savannah/Coastal Empire area.

David I. Roos (“The Duke”) was a pioneer in establishing our broader type 1 diabetes (T1D) community and dedicated his life to helping families in Georgia and across the country. Duke served as an advocate and testifed in front of congress – as a longtime supporter, past Board Member of JDRF ‘s Georgia Chapter and philanthropist at the highest level for T1D. In addition to his legacy and work with JDRF. Duke also supported the efforts of Team Type 1 and was one of the original Board Members for Camp Kudzu. Nothing motivated Duke more than his passion for getting kids to camp! He especially enjoyed welcoming campers and families to many of Camp Kudzu’s year-round programs.

As we celebrate Duke’s life and pay tribute to his lasting memory – “WE” (the greater diabetes community) along with Camp Kudzu families – salute Duke and have established in his name the David I. Roos, Jr.  Scholarship Award. This special scholarship fund will always be available to those families and children that have the greatest need and ensure that regardless of the economy, budget constraints or other unforeseen circumstances – the David I. Roos, Jr. Scholarship Award will ensure kids get to Camp!
