Junior Retreat

A diagnosis of type 1 diabetes can throw a wrench in being a kid- but it doesn’t have to! Camp Kudzu’s Junior Retreat was created to foster learning and community among our younger campers (3rd-6th grade). During this session, we focus on learning more about type 1 diabetes management through organic conversations and age-appropriate activities, and just being a kid.

This weekend provides time for campers to make new friends, get a taste of what summer camp looks like, and for those who have already attended summer camp, strengthen relationships made during summer camp with a smaller group of peers while exploring the diabetes-related challenges that they likely face every day.

Like our Summer Camp Program, campers are assigned to a cabin for the weekend that is supervised by counselors and a clinician to support their diabetes management.

COST

The true cost of camp greatly exceeds what Camp Kudzu charges our families for camp programs. We are grateful for year-round donations that enable us to continue offering these subsidized fees.

The cost for Junior Retreat is $400 per camper, including a non-refundable $100 deposit.

Scholarships are available for families and campers in all our programs, including our summer camp programs. Scholarship applications are included in all online and paper application packets. Families are asked to pay the non-refundable deposit and submit that payment WITH camper and scholarship application paperwork. Returning campers are eligible for a scholarship each year.
