South GA Cookout a huge success!

Several attendees of the Camp Kudzu Cookout sit at tables and listen to a speaker giving a presentation.

On Saturday, February 15, Camp Kudzu South GA offered the first Camp Kudzu Cookout at the beautiful Skidaway Island State Park in Savannah, GA.

A clear and cool day paved the way for everyone to come together as a community in a casual setting. Five T1D families and a handful of T1D community members participated in the festivities. These attendees included school nurses and Child Life Specialists from the Dwaine and Cynthia Willett’s Children Hospital. In addition, a City of Savannah staff member who helped organize the November Diabetes Walk in Savannah joined additional volunteers dedicated to the Kudzu cause.

With 46 participants attending, this was Camp Kudzu South GA’s largest attended event yet! As a result, those present saw the power of a strong, vibrant community. The attendees enjoyed the hiking trails, a playground, face painting, craft tables, and yummy hotdogs and hamburgers. Everyone had a great afternoon getting to know each other and the budding support group growing in the Coastal GA area.

An array of crafts from the Camp Kudzu cookout are displayed on a table along with crafting supplies.

We are looking forward to the next South GA event:
