Junior Counselors Program
Junior Counselors Program
Teens who will graduate high school in Spring 2026 are invited to apply for our Junior Counselor (JC) program! If you are new to Camp Kudzu and/or were not a Counselor-in-Training last year, you can still apply!
The JC year focuses on transitioning into independent young adulthood, while still enjoying the most important (and fun!) aspects of the camper experience. JCs get more freedom than the CITs, while still benefiting from the guidance and support of their lead staff member and their fully fledged counselor partners.
Before their summer camp session, JCs attend a training weekend in the spring, giving them the chance to bond with other JCs and learn preliminary skills needed for the summer. After this weekend, they attend a summer session of their choice.
While at camp, JCs sleep in cabins with their campers and the fully trained counselors. They help lead activities, support others’ diabetes management, and serve as role models for younger campers and CITs. Throughout their session, JCs also get to step away and have their own fun camper experiences, leadership training opportunities, and diabetes education programming.
Hopeful Junior Counselors submit an application and two reference forms, which can be found on UltraCamp. Camp Kudzu staff hold in-person group interviews early in the calendar year. Special arrangements may be made for out-of-town applicants to conduct interviews via SparkHire.

Cost
Realizing that different families have different abilities to pay, Camp Kudzu utilizes a tiered fee structure. We instituted this structure to provide the highest quality programs possible, to continue serving all community income levels, and to preserve camp for years to come!
The cost for the Junior Counselor (JC) program is:
- Tier 3 – $1,000 (Camp Fee + Pay it Forward to another Camper)
- Tier 2 – $600 (Camp Fee)
- Tier 1- Minimum Deposit + Awarded Campership
*This cost covers the spring training weekend AND the summer camp session!
Camperships are available for families and campers in all our programs. Campership applications are included in all online and paper application packets. Families are asked to pay the non-refundable deposit and submit that payment WITH JC and campership application paperwork, which is completed when JC is accepted into that year’s program.
Returning participants are eligible for camperships throughout the year.
