Back to School after T1D Dx

Sending your child back to school after a T1D diagnosis can be scary. This is likely the first time that you’ve separated from your child since diagnosis and it can be overwhelming to pass their diabetes management on to a school nurse or someone within the school.

In addition to the many, many other things you learned in your first diabetes education classes, you likely learned about 504 plans and special accommodations for students with T1D. Having everyone on the same page and keeping open lines of communication is key, ensuring everyone is on the same page and understands expectations. The resources below are a great start to getting back into the school routine with a new diagnosis. And, last but certainly not least—if you’ve heard us say it once, you’ve heard it a hundred times—getting connected with other parents in the Kudzu Community is helpful. Talking with parents who have “been there, done that” and sharing experiences or advice is a huge piece of what makes the Kudzu parent-base so beneficial—and special.
